Sanwo-Olu: we don't have to vaccinate over 20 million citizens against the COVID-19 VIRUS

The governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has said that there won't be any need vaccinating over 20 million residents in the state against the COVID-19 virus that is rampaging the world.

He made this known during an interview with channels Sunday politics hour adding that the government of the state is engaging companies to prepare vaccines to fight the deadly virus.

" It is important for me to make this. We don't have to vaccinate the 20 or 22 million population that we have. The plan is to ensure that their is herd immunity and that typically speaks about 50 to 60 percent of the population, that is the kind of target that you really meet". He said

"We have started a conversation with some of the vaccine manufacturers. Pfizer for example, I have made contact with them,  Johnson and johnson are not out yet, the moderna has written to us and we have written back to them."

When asked how the government intends to fund for the vaccine production, the governor said he and his administrations are engaging private sectors.

"Although the government has earmarked billions in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic, it wouldn't be enough.

" The conversations are still at various levels. We are speaking with our friends in the private sector to help us raise finance to fight the pandemic and they have said that although it is a public health issue they can offer some assistance".
